The other day, a friend shared a word with me and my husband that really stuck: “God didn’t call you to fill someone else’s shoes. He called you by name.”
At first, it sounded simple—but the more I thought about it, the more it hit me. How often do we try to measure up to someone else’s life, someone else’s ministry, or even someone else’s calling? We compare ourselves, we feel pressure to perform, or we think we have to follow a blueprint that wasn’t made for us.
But that’s not what God wants.
Isaiah 43:1 says, “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are Mine.” God knows our names. He knows our hearts. He knows the exact path He made just for us.
Hearing that word from our friend felt like a gentle reminder from God Himself: we aren’t here to imitate, copy, or try to live someone else’s life. We’re here to walk the path He created specifically for us, with all our quirks, gifts, and even our imperfections.
There’s such freedom in that. No pressure to be the “next” somebody. No weight to carry what was never ours to carry. Just a calling that’s personal, intimate, and perfectly suited to who we are.
So today, I’m letting go of comparison and expectation. I’m choosing to walk confidently in what God has called me to—my own path, my own assignment, my own shoes. Not because I have to prove anything, but because He knows my name and called me for His purpose.
Xoxo, Roxie
